Barstow Police Chief Reinstated After Six-Month Leave
Barstow’s police chief is returning to work next week after a six-month absence that had residents wondering if she was being terminated.
Police Chief Dianne Burns has been on paid administrative leave since Aug. 4, 2011, but the city isn’t providing many details on the situation.
“Police Chief Burns was placed on paid administrative leave after the city determined a personnel matter needed to be reviewed,” City Manager Curt Mitchell said in a statement Thursday.
According to the statement, “a thorough review of a personnel matter was conducted, and the chief is now returning to her full-time duties.”
Mitchell also said in the statement that “being placed on administrative leave was not an adverse disciplinary action, but rather a necessary step to protect both the city’s and Police Chief Burns’ interests.”
Burns, a seasoned cop who was previously a gang specialist for the Los Angeles Police Department, was hired as Barstow’s chief in 2007.
