    Sense and Sensibility at BCC

Holly Beardshear and Michael Dwight portray the lovers Elinor Dashwood and Edward Ferrars in BCC's production of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.

Starting in mid-October, early nineteenth-century England comes alive at Barstow Community College through the words of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. The stage adaptation by Ashley J. Barnard is directed by Amy Ross of the Theatre Arts Department, who has assembled a cast of 14 local student actors, ranging in age from 17 to 70.

Commenting about the production, Ms. Ross stated, “I have read some dry adaptations of literary works, but this version of Sense and Sensibility is touching, romantic, and funny. I have an incredible cast, and their talent sometimes astonishes me.”

The play concerns the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, who recently lost their father and their inheritance. To maintain their financial and social standing, it is imperative that they marry the right men. Both sisters experience love and heartbreak in this period piece of passionate romance and witty dialogue.

With a custom thrust stage designed and built in the Interim Performing Art Center by Ron Trotter, the audience will share an intimate look into the lives of the Dashwood sisters. Seating is limited and reservations are highly recommended.

Performance are at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays October 14, 15, 21, and 22. There will be one Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m. on October 16. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Children under 5 will not be admitted.

To reserve tickets call 760-252-6702 or e-mail aross@barstow.edu. Please leave name, contact information, performance date and number of tickets needed.
